The MCP1727 from Microchip is a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator that offers high output currents up to 1.5 A and low output voltages down to 0.8 V in a small 3 mm x 3 mm package. The MCP1727 is available as a fixed or adjustable version with an output range of 0.8 V to 5.0 V. The high demands of the new sub-1.8 V applications are fully met by the MCP1727. Based on CMOS technology, the regulator is stabilized with a 1 µF ceramic capacitor at the output. This type of capacitor ensures lower noise in the output signal and also saves space. The low current consumption of less than 120 µA during operation and the very low quiescent current of less than 100 nA in shutdown predestine this component for use in mobile systems.
