The GS family of Digital Signal Controllers (DSC) from Microchip Technology has a special high-performance periphery that was developed for the direct control of power electronic circuits. The core of this periphery is the high-resolution PWM/PFM module with extensive modes for all standard topologies. These internal clock generators are supported by additional 20 ns comparators with freely programmable threshold values in order to detect and handle peak currents and short circuits. This periphery is completed by fast A/D converters. These are equipped with a large number of parallel sample & hold links in order to be able to read in several signals synchronously. Additional functions such as multi-channel DMA support for complex communication interfaces and extensive control and security features round off the range. Thanks to the newly released versions with more memory and larger housings, these peripherals can now also be used in demanding applications such as high-performance frequency converters and multi-stage digital power supplies.
