Supercaps normally have a nominal voltage of 2.5 to a maximum of 3.0 V. However, many electronic circuits use a supply voltage of 3.3 or 5 V. The P-series from Powerstor are the 5 V variants of the respective standard series and thus inherit their properties with a doubled operating voltage and slightly lower capacitance. The PHV series from Powerstor is designed for lower temperatures, higher voltages and even lower ESR as a counterpart to the PHB series. The PHVL is designed for an operating voltage of 3.9 V instead of 5 V and has only a fraction of the leakage current of a corresponding PHV supercapacitor.
In 2012, the energy management provider Eaton acquired Cooper Industries, a company founded in 1833. The brand names of the established Cooper products Coiltronics, Powerstor, Cooper-Bussmann and Polysurg will be retained.
Eaton Elektronics Division products include the Coiltronics (SMD inductors), Powerstor (supercapacitors), Cooper Bussmann (fuses) and Polysurg (ESD protection elements) brands.
