Touchscreens

Resistive, PCAP, Haptic, Holographic

The use of touchscreens must suit the application. There are many advantages in favor of this:

No physical switches and buttons are required, and the HMI can be easily customized by modifying the software. Multi-touch and gesture control are important for some applications. In combination with a cover lens, an appealing and robust design can be created. Operation is intuitive directly at the “on site” location on the screen. Only the encapsulation with front glass and housing makes the entire system resistant to dust and moisture.

By selecting suitable technologies, disadvantages can be prevented, e.g. impairment of the display quality due to reflections or damage caused by vandalism and wear and tear. Even the lack of haptics can be retrofitted using various methods.

The most widely used technology today is Projected Capacitive Touchscreen (PCAP).

The following table compares individual technologies with their advantages and disadvantages.
